THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISHING REPORT FOR THE INDEPENDENT SPORTFISHING FLEET
Captain Temo Verboonen summed it all up in a single word in describing the overall fishing this past week in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo. He described it as, "Incredible" in the very near off shore waters, just west of Ixtapa, where the sailfish were prolific and providing multiple strikes for the anglers and many releases. Adding to the hot bite actions from the sailfish were plenty of smaller stripers and some quality sized dorado adding to the daily action that literally extended from about 5 miles to the west of Ixtapa and on out to the 15 mile mark. Rigged baits were unquestionably the baits of choice but even with that, there were occasional billfish being caught fishing inshore tight to the white rocks at the island as the anglers were trying to catch a few jack crevalles using poppers. The area around Troncones was producing a good bite on Sierras and bonitos. Overall, the action was as good as it gets and the anglers were kept very busy with the fishing action. Adding to the good fishing was the calm season and very nice overall weather conditions for the area.
IZ Climate: Near picture perfect weather for the visitors with an average of 83 degrees daytime temps and 70 degrees average for the nights. Humidity ratio holding about 69% average.
Sea Conditions: Tropical surface breezes flowing in from the southwest at about 8.75 mph average. Water temps inshore at 80 degrees and rising to 81.5 in the near off shore waters.
Best Fishing Areas: Starting at about 5 miles west of Ixtapa and stretching out o the 15 mile mark for the billfish and dorados.
Best Bait/Lures: Freshly caught baits for rigging were the favorite bait and producing all the action an angler wanted with plenty of daily billfish releases.

pangas.

THE CABO SAN LUCAS FISHING REPORTS FOR THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND FISH CABO FLEET
An incredible shut off for the fishing from Cabo San Lucas and for no real apparent reason other than perhaps a bit of a water cooling trend this past week that wrapped around Cabo from the Pacific side to Las Frailes. We had reports of a great number of 250 lb. yellowfin tuna feeding at the Cabo Falso drop off but not a single bite using live bait and casting right in the middle of the frenzy. According to Captain Roberto Marques, owner of the Fish Cabo boats, we were in the midst of a tuna feeding frenzy with about 10 other boats and not a single bite was had by any of the boats. A truly frustrating lesson in fishing. Our last week's report reflected a fishing bonanza and this week brought the bite to a screeching halt. The overall fish count for 38 days fished reflected 3 stripers released, (Gaviota IV, Gaviota VIII and Tuna Time, all had a single billfish released) 2 dorado, 5 yellowfin tuna, (smaller fish caught sporadically) 1 wahoo, 24 skipjack, 27 Sierras and 8 Toro, (jack crevalles).
Cabo Climate: It was a mostly sunny and clear week with a few days of passing clouds. Daytime air temps averaged 77.6 and nights were cooler and averaged 59.4. Humidity ratio averaged 56.4% for the week.
Sea Conditions: Water temps were cooler from the Golden Gate Bank and around to Las Frailes, all at about 74 degrees. Gorda Banks to Las Frailes at 72 degrees. Outside the Jaime Bank to the southwest the temps reflected 75 degrees. Surface breezes were flowing mostly from the westerly directions and averaged about 9 mph with Saturday blowing about 14 mph. Some afternoon wind chop for Saturday but otherwise, good sea conditions in all out-bound directions.
Best Fishing Area: There was no specific area reported for the better fishing, albeit, lots of really big tuna were seen in the area of the Cabo Falso Drop Off area.
Best Bait/Lure: Nothing was working particularly well and a lot of different systems were being tried but without success.
Bait Supply: Good supply of caballitos at the $3.00 per bait rate. Mackerel still available on the bank drop-offs.
Our Local Reporters: Gaviota Fleet Manager Carlos Pena and Captain Roberto Marquez, owner of Fish Cabo Fleet.

THE ARIES SPORTFISHING FLEET FOR THE MARINA EL CID & EL CID MEGA RESORT, THE PACIFIC AND MAZATLAN
Mazatlan and The Aries Sportfishing Fleet reflected a total of 18 off shore fishing days that reflected 4 stripers, 3 sailfish, (2 released) and 11 yellowfin tuna for the week in the off shore waters and the in shore super pangas reflected 9 days fishing that produced 15 yellowfin tuna, 1 dorado, 3 white snappers, 22 triggerfish and 176 red snappers. The sea surface conditions continue to be favorable throughout the area with an average surface breeze under 8 mph with exception to Sunday at 12 mph, all flowing from the westerly directions.
Mazatlan Climate: Mostly a sunny and pleasant week with a couple of intermittent passing clouds on Friday & Saturday. Daytime air temps averaged 80.6 degrees and the nights cooler at 55 degrees.
Sea Conditions: Sea temps inshore at 74 degrees and off shore at 76 degrees. Surface breezes flowing mostly from the westerly directions at an average of 7.8 mph.
Best Fishing Area: Most of the off shore catches took place out to the southwest of the Marina El Cid, starting at about 16 miles and beyond, but there was no concentration of fish in any of the off shore location.
Best Bait/Lures: The billfish bit best on the rigged trolling baits and the tuna bit best on the varied colored tuna feathers.
Bait Supply: Remained plentiful for the boats for both, fresh rigging baits supplied with the charters and live baits sold at $1.00 per bait.

THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISHING REPORT FOR THE INDEPENDENT SPORTFISHING FLEET
According to the latest fishing report from Captain Temo Verboonen, our local reporter, the bite was very productive for most of the fleet fishing offshore and included sailfish, striped marlin, dorados and yellowfin tuna and the better action pretty much stayed at the 12 mile mark all week, although it was good enough from about 10-18 miles out front of the Bay. The inshore fishing continues to be on the slow side with an occasional roosterfish and a few jack crevalle. The Mark Kordus husband and wife charter for 3 days fished aboard the "Bloody Hook", reflected 2 stripers released, several sailfish released, several more strikes and a couple more sailfish early released and a bigger dorado in the mix, too. We did focus on the bigger billfish trolling with live mackerels, but had no luck at all. According to Captain Chiro and Luis, these Wyoming folks are repeat customers that fish with them annually and are wonderful anglers that always seem to have a great time during their off shore fishing charters and we very much enjoy their company.
IZ Climate: Warm and pleasant days with daytime temps at 84 degrees average and nice evenings at about 71 degrees average. Humidity ratio at 73.4%.
Sea Conditions: Water temps at 85 inshore but the water is off-color and green inshore and changes to 86 degrees off-shore. Surface breezes flowing mostly from the westerly directions and averaged about 7 mph and calm surface conditions.
Best Fishing Area: The span is from about 10-18 miles out front of the Bay but the better bite area seemed to be right at the 12-mile mark for the most part.
Best Bait/Lure: The rigged baits were working well for the billfish and the dorado but the bigger, live trolling baits, were not having any black or blue marlin successes this year.
Bait Supply: The area continues to be excellent for freshly caught baits for rigging and live bait at $5.00 per dozen.
Our Local Reporters: Captain Temo Verboonen, owner of the Secuestro de Amor and Macho Banana, 25' Super Pangas and Captain Chiro Barragan, owner of the "Bloody Hook"

THE PUERTO MORELOS FISHING REPORT FOR THE MARINA EL CID, CARIBBEAN)
A rather busy week's fishing from Puerto Morelos this past week and it looks like the folks are getting a little tired of the cold weather in the U.S.? IZ Climate: It was a mostly sunny and warm week with the average daytime temps at 83 degrees and the nights hovering at about 71 degrees. The humidity ratio is holding at about 75%. Calm ocean and excellent fishing weather.
Sea Conditions: In shore water temps at 81 degrees and rising to 82 degrees for the off shore waters. Pristine blue waters start at about a mile out front of the bay. Tropical surface breezes flowing mostly from the southwesterly directions at an average of 7.5 mph.
Best Fishing Areas: An enormously wide area of big game fish, including marlin, sailfish, dorado and yellowfin tuna that are keeping the anglers very busy on this year's beginning of the catching action and it all starts at about 7 miles off shore and continues on for the next 13 miles or so. There is probably more fish beyond the 20 mile mark but there is just no reason to extend the burning of fuel.
Best Bait/Lures: Rigged baits are working very well and so are live baits and Cedar plus, tuna feathers and so much more. The fish are anxious to bite most everything moving through the water right now and the anglers are having terrific fun fishing days.
Bait Supplies: Good bait supplies that include freshly caught baits for trolling and live bait at $5.00 per dozen.
Our Local Fishing Reporter: Captain Temo Verboonen, owner of the super pangas, Secuestro de Amor and Macho Banana.

XTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISHING REPORT FOR THE INDEPENDENT SPORTFISHING FLEET
WOW! What a huge difference a week can make in the fishing results in a single area. Ou report for the week was a complete reverse of last week and the fishing changed in a full circle and spiraled upward like a championship football being tossed to a winning touchdown receiver. Captain Temo Verboonen, our on-location reporter, had only good things to say about the past week from the proximity to the Bay, the water color, water temps and the overall fish bite fo both, inshore and offshore. You could almost see the smile on his face by reading his report. He reported a great week for the off shore anglers. The billfish were very cooperative almost all week with a good bite on the blue marlin and better bite on the sailfish, with the action starting at about the 15-mile mark, just as the water changes to clean blue. Really a good time for using a fly rod for the sailfish. The inshore fishing was also very good for the jack crevalle and for roosterfish by Valentin River and they are mixed in with the Sierras and bonitos.
IZ Climate: Air temperatures varied from 74 nights to 91 daytime highs and a 67.5 average humidity level. A mostly sunny and near perfect weather & fishing week.
Sea Conditions: Sea temps at 83 in shore to 86-87 off shore. Tropical surface breezes varied from near calm mornings to about 7-8 mph in early afternoons. Good clarity at about 15 miles.
Best Fishing Area: Starting at about 15 miles, where the water clarity changes from off color greenish to perfect blue and the fish are eager to bite.
Best Lure/Bait: Fresh baits for rigging and live baits are working very well for the anglers as are artificials & streamers.
Bait Supply: Excellent for both, freshly caught baits for rigging and live baits at $5.00 per dozen.
