THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANJEO FISHING REPORT FOR THE INDEPENDENT SPORT FISHING FLEET

Finally, a good weather report came in from Captasin Temo Verboonen, our local reporter for Zihuatanejo, along with an updated fishing report for the area.  Temo said the boats that got out this past week had blue water to the 10 mile mark but after that, the water turned off color greenish and the overall bite was slow.  The captains did see man small sharks around the logs and they did catch a few dorado and sailfish, but all in all, it was not our regular fishing and we are looking forward to improvements, sor sure.  The inshore bite remained very good for the bigger jack crevalles and roosterfish, especially at the mouth of the Valentin River Beaches area.

IZ Climate:  A much improved weather report for the area with a no rain week and daytime temps averaged 88.6 degrees and nights were a 79.3 degrees.  The humidity ratio averaged 76.8% for the week.

Sea Conditions:  Water temps varied from 86-87 degrees with good blue water to about the 10 mile mark before turning greenish outbound from there.  Tropical surface breezes averaged 7.3 mph and the area remained calm for most of the week.

Best Bait & Lures:  Rigged baits worked best for the few sailfish while the dorado bit better on the artificials.  Live bait and poppers were working well for the inshore fishing for jacks and roosterfish.

Bait Supply:  The bait supply remains very good at the $5.00 per dozen for the live bait.

THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISHING REPORT FOR THE INDEPENDENT SPORT FISHING FLEET

According to our local reporter, Captain Temo Verboonen, the off shore fishing for billfish continues to be a bit on the slow side but he few that are being caught have been  respectable sizes.  Temo reported the "Bloody Hook" landed a 250 lb. black marlin, (550 lbs.) this past week that came in rapidly for the angler, having died during the fight.  The fish had a big tuna and a dorado in its stomach but was taken on a small bait being trolled just back of the prop wash.  Temo reported clean blue water started at about 3 milers off shore but the better fishing was at 12 miles or so.  The inshore fishing changed and the fish seem to be moving around to the north and south of IZ.  The better catches came from an area called Rancho, some 30 miles north of the Bay, and produced Sierras and Jacks and many small, baby roosterfish, (all releasables).  Seems like much of the schools of bait have been moving and taking the big schools of game fish with them and locating them is taking some effort by the skippers.

IZ Climate:  A mostly sunny and warm week for this area with daytime temps averaging 83.8 and nights at 72.3 degrees.  Humidity ratio averaging 79%.  Very good climate for fishing.

Sea Conditions:  Sea surface breezes flowing in mostly from the westerly directions and averaged 10.3 mph.  In shore sea temp at 80 degrees and off shore is right at 82 degrees.

Best Bait/Lure:  The off shore catches continue to be best on rigged baits and the inshore fishing best on live bait and artificials, including the poppers.

Bait Supply:  Remains readily available for both, fresh rigging baits that are included with the charter and live bait at $5.00 per dozen.

THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISHING REPORT FOR THE INDEPENDENT SPORT FISHING FLEET

The off shore fishing for billfish has been a little on the slow side but when the boats have connected, it has been with bigger fish.  The Orion reported in with a 450 lb. blue marlin during the past few days and that was a keeper for the angler.  However, the overall off shore catching continues to be on the slowish side for the anglers.  The in shore fishing continues to be full speed action for the jack crevalles on bait and artificials and has been keeping the anglers fast at the rails.  Captain Temo Verboonen reported his boat landed 5 roosterfish at Puerto Vicente Guerrero, along with a few Sierra and the anglers were thrilled with that action.  Valentin Point continues to produce the red hot bite for the jack crevalles on bait and on artificials, too.  Most of the boats are landing 20-25 bigger jacks everyday.

IZ Climate:  A mostly sunny and warm week with mostly clear skies and temps that averaged 85.6 daytime and 69.2 at night.  Humidity Ratio averaged 60%.

Sea Conditions:  Sea surface breezes flowing mostly rom the westerly directions and averaged about 9.8 mph.  Water temps varied from 81-82 from in shore to off shore waters.

Best Fishing Area:  Off shore has been a little slow for the billfish but they are landing a few of the bigger fish.  Roosterfish were found to want to bite near Puerto Vicente Guerrero and the jack crevalle bite at Vicente Point has been exceptional on a daily basis.

Best Bait/Lure:  Jacks taking baits and artificials without hesitation.  Billfish mostly on bigger swim baits.  Roosterfish on live baits.

Bait Supply:  Excellent bait supply and live bait continues at $5.00 per dozen.

 THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISHING FEPORT FOR THE INDEPENDENT SPORT FISHING FLEET

  According to our local reporter for Zihuatanejo, Captain Temo Verboonen, owner of the Secuestro de Amor and Macho Banana, the fishing was a bit slower this past week but still, with some good catches reported from some of the boats.  A near 80 lb.    yellowfin tuna was taken aboard one of the super pangas and a 330 lb. black marlin was taken aboard one o0f the 35' sport fishing cruisers.  We had some mix of sailfish through the week and the overall action started at about 10-12 miles off shore in the beginning of the blue water area.  No dorado reported this past week.  The inshore bite produced very good action from big jack crevalles along with Sierras and bonitos but the fish were spooky and hard to get on.  The better inshore action was along the beaches by Pantla, before Trancones.  

IZ Climate:  A warm and sunny week with excellent daytime temps that averaged 86 degrees and nights at 69 degrees.  Humidity averaged a 62% ratio.

Sea Conditions:  Surface breezes flowing in from the westerly directions at about 9.3 mph average.  Inshore water temps at 79 degrees and off shore temps at 79-80 degrees.

Best Fishing Areas:  The better off shore action started just outside the 10 mile mark and the inshore action was was along the beaches near Pantla, just before Trancones.

Best Bait/Lure:  The inshore wads best with the live bait and the offshore was best with the freshly rigged baits or trolling swimming baits.

Bait Supply:  Remained very good for freshly caught baits for rigging and live bait was available at $5.00 per dozen.

THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISHING REPORT FOR THE INDEPENDENT SPORT FISHING FLEET

The "Bloody Hook", skippered by Captain Chiro Barragan, landed a 250 lb. blue marlin for Angler Bob Kowall, Toronto, Canada, on Tuesday.  However, overall, the fishing had sporadic good & difficult fishing days and the billfish were moving farther off shore by the day.  The yellowfin tuna came back for a few days and bit well but as the areas water clarity diminished, the fish seemed to move on to better water conditions.  According to Captain Temo Verboonen, our local reporter, the fishing from the 17 mile mark and outward was much better as the week progressed but most of the fleet were lucky to have only one or two strikes for the day in the off shore waters.  The inshore fishing was very good for the big jack crevalles all along the coast line.  The bonitos were spooky and we did land a few groupers on live baits, but the waters have turned greenish and cold and the fishing seems to have destabilized depending on the day of the week, even with the good weather conditions.  We are experiencing many anglers at the pier every morning, allowing for us to have a better season for he boats.

IZ Climate:  Mostly sunny & warm days with daytime temps averaging 82.6 degrees and nights at 66.2 degrees.  Humidity ratio averaged 61%.

Sea Conditions:  Sea Temps in shore at 80 degrees and rising to 81-82 degrees for the off shore waters.  The bluer water is nearing the 17 mile mark.  Surface breezes flowing in from varied directions at an average of about 8 mph.  Surface remains calm.

Best Fishing Area:  The better area is now starting at about 17 miles off shore from the Bay as the waters are clean and blue from there and outward from there, along with good sea temps holding at 81-82 degrees.

Best Bait/Lure:  Rigged baits were working fair for the billfish but trolled live bait was best for the off shore action.  Live bait were working well for the inshore fishing, especially for the groupers and the bigger jack crevalles.

Bait Supplies:  Freshly caught bait for rigging was readily available for the charters and provided gratis.  Live bait remained at $5.00 per dozen.

According to Captain Temo Verboonen, there was a very good blue marlin bite the past week using live bait on the down riggers, with the fish averaging about 120kg.  Sailfishing was on the slow side, the dorado moved out of the area and the purse seiners moved in on the yellowfin tuna and very few were left over for the anglers.  A very different fishing week for the sport fishing anglers and the sport boats.  Adding to the change was the full moon phase, too.  The cleaner waters are now off shore, starting at about the 10 mile mark.  The inshore fishing remains very good for the jack crevalles, bigger Sierra and bonitos, but no roosterfish reported.

IZ Climate:  A mostly sunny and warm week with a partly cloudy Wednesday.  Daytime temps averaged 84 degrees and the nights at 67.6.  Humidity ratio averaged 65%.

Sea Conditions:  Water temps are favorable and stable at 83 inshore to 84 off shore.  Sea surface breezes flowing mostly from the westerly directions and averages 8-9 mph.

Best Fishing Area:  The better blue marlin bite started in the 10 mile mark and outside that area aways. 

Best Bait/Lures:  Live baits were working best on the down riggers for the blue marlin and the fish were generally in the 250-270 lb. ranges.

Bait Supplies:  Live bait was a little difficult this past week for the first time in a long time and that was mostly due to the full moon and very clean waters in the inshore areas.  Plenty of freshly caught rigging baits

Captain Temo Verboonen continues to provide the third week of fabulous fishing for the fleet that produced near limit fishing for yellowfin tuna on most days and added many dorado and sailfish in the mixed bag catches in the very close in off shore waters.  The tuna are in the 10 kg. size ranges and for the most part are eager to bite the smaller feathers and artificials.  There is still a fair number of marlin throughout the area and almost everything wants to bite anything that's moving through the water.  The inshore fishing continues to be very good for the jack crevalles and bonito but no roosterfish were available for the additional action in shore.

IZ Climate:  A mostly sunny & warm week with daytime temps that averaged 87 degrees and nights at 71.4.  Humidity ration holding at 67.6 %.

Sea Conditions:  Water temps holding at 82 in shore and 83 off shore.  Surface breezes flowing in from the westerly directions at about 8 mph on average.

Best Lure/Bait:  Rigged baits working well for the billfish and small feathers & artificials working well for the yellowfin tuna.  Just plenty of action for the anglers.

Bait Supply:  There continues to be a good bait supply for frsh rigging baits and live baits.  Live baits are still available at $5.00 per dozen and the fresh rigging baits are provided gratis as part of the charter.

THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISHING REPORT FOR THE INDEPENDENT SPORTFISHING FLEET

Another banner fishing week from Ixtapa-Zihuagtanejo and now, there are big schools of yellowfin tuna 20-50 lb ranges just a few miles off shore, running along with the porpoise.  Adding to the excitement is the sailfish and dorados in the mix and everything is currently eager to bite whatever is moving around in the water.  We had many reports of anglers that had more than a double handful of tuna, along with dorado and sailfish in the mix, too.  The tuna are biting good on spoons and very small plastic lures.  Then, the inshore bite has also picked up with lots of jack crevalles, Sierras and even some roosterfish showing up in the area around Salidita.  

IZ Climate:  Fabulous weather with daytime temps at 84 degrees average and nights at 70.5 degrees average.  Humidity ratio was holding at 67 %.  Bright, sunny days and just incredible fishing results for all anglers.

Sea Conditions:  Water temps in shore holding at 82 degrees and rising to 85 degrees off shore, all with superb clarity from about a mile beyond the entrance to the Bay and on outbound from there.  Tropical surface breezes flowing in from the westerly directions at 7.85 mph average with calm sea conditions everywhere and in all directions.

Best Fishing Area:  The yellowfin tuna are in big schools and holding in an area that is about 8 miles offshore and in front of Zihuatanejo Bay.  Lots of sea life, birds and porpoise going everywhich direction and there is plenty of sailfish and dorado on the edges of the tuna schools.  It has been beyond great fishing in this area and going on for the 3rd to 4th straight week.

Best Bait/Lure:  The billfish like the rigged baits but the tuna are eager on the smaller spoons and small plastic lures.

Bait Supply:  A very good live bait supply at $5.00 per dozen and plenty of freshly caught baits for rigging.  The tuna have been anxious to bite the smaller lures in the 4-5 inches and most  any of the colors were working very well.  Jacks, roosterfish and Sierra were biting baits and the smaller arificials.
