THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISHING REPORT FOR THE INDEPENDENT SPORTFISHING FLEET
The full moon has made the strong off shore bite a little more difficult for the anglers and this past week was a more of the have and have nots for the week. Still, though, the marlin and sailfish did cooperate closer in toward the Bay and while we looked at fair amounts of yellowfin tuna, they were not being helpful with the bite and the dorado have completely disappeared. The inshore fishing remains very good for the big roosterfish and big jack cravelles but the bonito and Sierra were being stubborn and not eager to bite. Look for the bite to regenerate as the moon phase grows darker in the coming week.
IZ Climate: Varied air temps from 69 nights to 92 daytime highs and a 63% average humidity level. Am amazing week of great weather with a few days of partly cloudy conditions but overall a generous mix of sunshine and pleasant weather.
Sea Conditions: Sea temperatures stable at 84 to 84.5 from inshore to off shore waters. Tropical surface breezes flowing mostly from the westerly directions and varied from flat calm to 8-9 mph. Excellent fishing conditions overall.
Best Fishing Area: Starting at about 8-9 miles out front of the Zihuatanejo Bay for the billfish.
Best Lures/Bait: Rigged baits were working consistently well for the billfish and live baits were doing very nicely on the roosterfish and jack crevalles.
Bait Supply: Remained very good for the freshly caught baits for rigging and plenty of live bait at $5.00 per dozen.

THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISHING REPORT FOR THE INDEPENDENT SPORTFISHING FLEET
The fishing from Zihuatanejo has been providing exceptional catches in the offshore waters that have included some quality sized yellowfin tuna and a terrific bite on the sailfish. According to Captain Chiro Barragan and his mate, Luis, operators of the 35' Bertram sportfisher, "Bloody Hook", have been providing their anglers with some sensational fishing in the area about 18 miles out front of the white rocks. According to Chiro, they spent 2 hours & 40 minutes landing a 180 lb. yellowfin tuna with the Mattson charter group and on their 2nd charter day they landed/released 5 sailfish and lost a couple more. We were in a "hot spot" and the fish wanted to bite, preferring the rigged goggle eye baits. A couple of the boats fishing the same area landed some extra large yellowfin tuna also and landed a 300 lb. blue marlin. According to Captain Temo Verboonen, most of the boats were successful with multiple strikes on a daily basis but even with that, there were a few that drew blanks, too. The inshore fishing has been terrific for the big roosterfish and big jack crevalles by Pantla Beach, next to Ixtapa Island, along with some bonitos and Sierras, too. Lots of anglers on the per everyday now and anglers are returning very happy.
IZ Climate: Air temps varied from 70 nights to 93 daytime highs and a 50% average humidity level. The weather has been like the fishing, just sensational. Mostly sunny and warm days and very pleasant evenings and nights.
Sea Conditions: Tropical surface breezes flowing mostly from the westerly directions and ranged from near calm to 7-8 mph. Sea Temps stable at 83-84 degrees.
Best Fishing Area: The better bite are was out front of the White Rocks, starting at about 18 miles or so. Lots of bird life and surface action in this area.
Best Bait/Lure: Rigged Goggle Eye baits were working best for the tuna and sailfish.
Bait Supply: An excellent supply of bait, both live and fresh for rigging. Rigging baits are provided gratis as part of the charters and live bait are sold at $5.00 per dozen, paid direct to the bait vendor at time of receipt.

THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISHING REPORT FOR THE INDEPENDENT SPORTFISHING FLEET
It was a much improved fishing week or the Zihuatanejo area as the moon phase grew darker by the day. The billfish were back to biting much better and some dorado were getting in on the bite action too. We also had a very good 1-day bite on the yellowfin tuna, adding good action for many anglers on that single day. The inshore fishing produced some very good roosterfish action, along with jack crevalles, Sierras, (aka Spanish mackerel) and bonitos. Excellent fishing conditions from inshore to offshore that provided clean water and good temperatures.
IZ Climate: Air temps good at 71 nights and 92 daytime highs and a 65% humidity level average. A mostly sunny week with a couple of partly cloudy dfays.
Sea Conditions: Sea temps holding fairly stable at 82-83 degrees. Surface breezes tropical and flowing mostly from the westerly directions and varied from calm mornings to about 8 mph by afternoons. Very good fishing weather.
Best Fishing Area: Starting at about 8-9 miles out front of the Bay area and working outbound from there.
Best Bait/Lures: Fresh rigged baits were working best on the billfish and some of the dorado, too. Tuna biting the feathers and other artificials and offering plenty of action for the anglers.
Bait Supply: The bait supply, both fresh baits or rigging and live bait, were available and working well for the billfish and dorados and yellowfin tuna.
Our on-the-spot local reporter: Captain Temo Verboonen, Owner/operator of the Secuestro De Amor.
